Should Rafael Nadal Retire?

Rafael Nadal is a Spanish professional tennis player. He has been ranked currently world no 5. He is considered to be one of the finest players in history and this is the reason that he has been titled "The king of clay”. The reason why Nadal is considered to be one of the finest clay court players is that he has won around 14 Grand slam singles title 2008 Olympic gold medal in singles, 16 ATP world tour 500 tournaments and about 27 titles in ATP world tour masters 1000 events. Going through his history we can easily declare that Nadal is the greatest player ever but he has destroyed his awesome body that displayed greatness. Once a upon a time he was even considered a greater player than Roger Federer. But now all the tennis players out there need to realize that Nadal’s performance is degrading day by day. He is basically plagued by injury these days. This former champion now seems to bow out of contest either due to injury or by disappointingly losing to better games of Murray, Djokivic or Federer. He has been in this game for the last fifteen years and have accomplished everything from winning an Olympic gold medal to holding a record for most ATP tour master titles.

He has already set up his legacy and should not spoil it. In order to stay in this game he needs to reinvent his playing style. Those entire top spin shots, they are no longer a threat to rivals. So basically he needs to change his game so as to extend his longevity or risk a burnout. Dating back into the history it has been observed that at the age of 28, Nadal has won around 14 Grand slam titles but with the entry of this new generation, new playing techniques have been introduced. Also the enthusiasm in this new generation to achieve a goal is much more than the earlier players. This also is one of the greatest reasons that Nadal should retire and give a fair chance to the new generation to showcase their talents. Also if he does not retire soon he will burn up all his energy into these crippling injuries later on. He has now started losing his sparkle. So ending his career like this would be more heartbreaking than bowing out now gracefully and with some dignity.
