Since Kabaddi is a game of stamina, we need to master our skills on how to sidestep shedding it. Constant running and breathless hums of Kabaddi tires a person to a parched throat. So here’s a way on how to build energy, by practicing these skills.

Holding breath: As rules suggest, every time a player goes in the opponent’s court as an attacker he is supposed to say ‘Kabaddi-Kabaddi’ from the time he enters the court for attacking. This aspect of the game consumes a lot of energy. To master this aspect the player must hold his breath atleast 1 to 3 minutes by saying ‘Kabaddi-Kabaddi’ every day. This helps his consistency and therefore he can be sent numerous times for attacking.

Speed attack: This technique of attacking again is very tiring as the bodily movements have to be very quick. By this technique, the opponent can be made out within a short span of time when the opponent is unaware about it. To master this technique, one needs to practice various exercises as mentioned below.

1.       The player must speed up his leg movements by taking swift backward and forward steps.
2.       The player must practice brisk walking to cover up the field from one end to the other within the blink of an eye.

These exercises help the player to have an upper hand during his ‘speed attacks.’

Back kick: It is a technique during which the attacker on surrounded by his opponents brings it into practice. The back kick needs to be accurate-straight at the knee and ankle. During this technique the player must maintain his body balance at mid-back. To master this skill certain exercises should be practiced like the ones mentioned below.

1.       A ball hung by string can be continuously kicked to better the skill of back kicking. This will also improve the body balancing technique.
2.       Use this technique frequently during practice matches.
3.       The players can form pairs in which one player back kicks while the other defends it. The leg can be caught by one while the other tries to escape.
4.       The player can take support of a hurdle as he kicks his leg higher in the backward direction.
On regular practice of these exercises, one can master his back kicking technique.

Squat leg thrust: This is a sudden and quick technique used by the attacker. In this technique, the attacker sits on this one leg while the other is stretched out balancing the body with the help of your hands.

This technique helps in gaining a point with ease.

Toe touching: By balancing the body at mid back, the player stretches his legs like that while back kicking but a little lower and gains a point by touching the opponent with his toe. This technique can be used to fool the opponent by confusing him with a back kick and instead make him out with toe touching technique.

Jumping: The jump has to be over the back and head. While performing this technique, let your opponents think they’ve caught you and as they surround you, you flip over their back and land safely. Safe landing is a must during this technique or else you can get out. After you successfully land on the ground you should run towards the center. To perform this technique the player must be flexible, experienced and a quick decision maker. It is one of the toughest techniques of Kabaddi but if learnt well, it can flatter the opponent.

Hope these skills helped you. All the best!
