The entire North and North
Eastern borders of India are covered with the great Himalayas. India is truly
gifted with the enormous biodiversity. The exquisite mountain ranges of the
India open the doors for the practice of thrilling sports in the Nation. India
is considered as one of the best terrains to practice mountaineering. Yet India
is unable to grow this sport in the Nation. The fact is that, till date, India
is unable to completely haul the sport of Mountaineering. Mountaineering is a
sport that is considered as the sport of other league. The records state that
in India there are only three institutes that impart the training for
mountaineering. The institutes are present in Manali, Uttrakashi and
Darjeeling. Other institutes in the country are affiliated to these institutes
and run on smaller scales. The inadequacy of such institutes leads to the
obscured fame of the sport of mountaineering. Taking down another reason for
the non-popularity of Mountaineering in India is that there are many few who
know about it. One who is willing to do mountaineering needs to create a team,
but collecting a team is a difficult task. One of the biggest hurdles of
mountaineers is to look for a sponsor for their expeditions. The participation
in mountaineering can take a lot of money from your pocket. That is why it
becomes essential to be sponsored.
Indian Mountaineering still needs to grow as various platforms.
But there are the legends from the Indian Soil who have made the Nation proud
because of their preeminent spirits and the courage to practice the unusual
sport. Mastan Babu Malli is the mountaineer who is claimed to be India’s most
famous mountaineer. Mastan Babu Malli is an adventurer and motivational speaker
who died while doing what he loves the most. His profound love of climbing the
mountains made him the fastest person to scale 7 highest peaks of the seven continents in a record time of 172 days. Mastan
Babu Malli was a brilliant student who studied at IIT followed up with the IIM
but he left the most promising job to continue his passion of mountaineering. Mastan babu was also conferred the title “The Pride Of
India” by the Indian American Friendship Council, at Dallas, Texas. Mastan
Babu Malli led the spirit of Never to give up and never to give in.
The Indian Mountains had also seen the undeterred will of
Indian Women. Bachendri Pal is the first Indian Women who became successful to
reach to the summit of Mount Everest. Born in the villages of Himalaya,
Bachendri Pal was enthusiastic about the mountaineering since her childhood.
Pal marked the history of climbing the Mount Everest in 1984 and lifted up the
status of women in the Indian Society. Bachendri Pal was selected in the
India’s Fourth expedition called Everest 84 and from the team of 6 Indian Women
and 11 men she was the only women to reach the summit on 23rd of May
at 1:07 p.m. and created own history.
